Classical Dance of India Workshop and Performance with Pratibha Jena Singh of New Delhi, India

3-5pm Workshop: Open to all levels of dance experience (including none!), this workshop will introduce the magic of Odissi Dance;  the hand gestures, rhythmic steps and facial expressions used in this Calssical Indian Dance from Orissa, India, known as Odissi Dance. We will see stories enacted from Hindu Mythology and ancient temple sculptures brought to life! $35 before Nov. 1st/ $40 day of  workshop.  Attendence at Workshop includes entry to Performance.

8pm Performance: The performance will illustrate the highest level of development of Odissi Classical Indian Dance as performed by Pratibha Jena Singh, daughter of the late Guru Surendra Nath Jena. $15 before Nov.1st/ $18 at door

Benjy Wertheimer is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist (playing tabla, congas, percussion, esraj, guitar, and keyboards) and vocalist specializing in Indian classical music. He has played with a diverse range of musicians, including Carlos Santana, Paul Winter, and Narada Michael Walden. Heather Wertheimer is a national award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist. Together as Shantala they have shared the stage and recording studio with sacred music luminaries such as Krishna Das, Deva Premal, and Jai Uttal, and they have released a number of critically acclaimed CDs.
